Larry Norman, christian music pioneer, died Sunday morning. His music was very influential in my early songwriting development. I only saw him perform once in 1977, but I remember it well. He had his challenges, as we all do, but he pressed on for the prize and he will be missed
Larry’s final message:
I feel like a prize in a box of cracker jacks with God’s hand reaching down to pick me up. I have been under medical care for months. My wounds are getting bigger. I have trouble breathing. I am ready to fly home.
My brother Charles is right, I won’t be here much longer. I can’t do anything about it. My heart is too weak. I want to say goodbye to everyone. In the past you have generously supported me with prayer and finance and we will probably still need financial help.
My plan is to be buried in a simple pine box with some flowers inside. But still it will be costly because of funeral arrangement, transportation to the gravesite, entombment, coordination, legal papers etc. However money is not really what I need, I want to say I love you.
I’d like to push back the darkness with my bravest effort. There will be a funeral posted here on the website, in case some of you want to attend. We are not sure of the date when I will die. Goodbye, farewell, we will meet again.
Goodbye, farewell, we’ll meet again
Somewhere beyond the sky.
I pray that you will stay with God
Goodbye, my friends, goodbye.
Larry

A real pioneer. I got to see him in 1981 & 1988. I wonder who he’s jammin’ with in heaven?

How weird in light of your picture the other day. Larry Norman was the first Christian musician whose music I liked when I became a Christian. God bless his loved ones.

I have been thinking of Larry lately, as I wished I had it together like him concerning faith and direction in life.
I thought I’d check if maybe there was something I could download off the net just now,and learned of his passing.
His music helped me a lot when I started to dive heavily into studying the Word, in the early 1990s, with his first four albums, and a best of the second trilogy tape.
Gave a lot of joy and inspiration, and hope.
I would like to say this sucks bigtime!, but knowing that he was ill, it is probably for the best. He is one of the last men we want to see in pain.

One of the first, if not the first, Christian artist whose music made me think about what I believe.
Bless his memory, I look forward to meeting him in glory.

Hey Marc,
I remember that concert. We were there together with my brothers and you.
What ever happened to that hat you wore to the concert with the wire sticking out?
Larry Norman was unique and original.
His music influenced and helped me a great deal throughout my life and my walk with God.

Kenny,
I don’t remember that hat, but the concert was great. Was it just you, Keith, Mike and I or did Mike B. go too? Was that really 30 years ago?
Plea by Marc — February 27, 2008 @ 4:48 pm
I think Mike B. was there too.
I am referring to the leather hat where you hid your microphone wire to tape the concert. The audio was horrible but good try.
I hope you are doing well!

Ahhh, I remember now. Man if I could find that tape, but it was poor quality. I remember he did “Soul on Fire” and I’d never heard that song before, I learned to play it off that pirate tape.

Wow…a concert pirate Marc? I am chuckling.
